LOCATION: Neu-Isenburg (near Frankfurt am Main, Germany)

We are seeking an Application Scientist (m/f/d) specialising in single-crystal diffraction techniques to join Rigaku Europe SE near Frankfurt am Main. In this role, you will serve as one of Rigaku’s scientific experts in X-ray and electron diffraction, supporting both existing and new customers – typically experienced crystallographers from a broad range of disciplines. You will perform high-quality data collections using Rigaku’s XtaLAB Synergy series diffractometers and collaborate with researchers to explore and expand the boundaries of structural science. This role is ideal for a scientist who thrives on solving complex problems, ensuring data quality, and sharing knowledge to advance structural science.

Your Role:

  • Perform demonstrations of 3D ED/MicroED and XRD equipment in the Rigaku Europe SE laboratory sites as part of the sales process.
  • Conduct measurements on a broad variety of customer samples, covering the full pipeline from sample preparation to structure refinement.
  • Prepare measurement and demonstration reports within specified deadlines and contribute to related scientific publications, frequently including co-authorship.
  • Deliver on-site application training for customers following instrument installation or upon request.
  • Support customers with application-related issues and queries in coordination with Rigaku’s Service and Software departments.
  • Represent Rigaku at conferences, trade shows, seminars, and workshops, acting as an ambassador for our single-crystal portfolio.
  • Prepare webinars and application notes highlighting new features and use cases of Rigaku’s single-crystal instruments.
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to our Sales Team.
  • Contribute to workflow optimization and product development, collaborating with R&D and Product Management on user-inspired improvements to new hardware and software features.

Your Qualifications:

  • PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Mineralogy, Structural Biology, Material Science or a related field.
  • Deep practical knowledge of single-crystal diffraction, including data collection, reduction, structure solution, and refinement.
  • Hands-on experience with single-crystal X-ray diffractometers and/or 3D-ED/MicroED instruments.
  • Familiarity with some of the standard crystallographic data analysis packages (such as CrysAlisPro, XDS, DIALS, Olex2, SHELX, CCP4, PETS, Jana2020, XD, MoPro, CRYSTALS). Programming skills in Python are an advantage.
  • Sound understanding of crystallography theory and methods used in data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills in English; additional language skills are an advantage.

What we offer:

  • A multinational work environment.
  • Working at the intersection of academia and industry, in touch with the latest developments in a wide variety of scientific fields while offering state-of-the-art solutions for cutting-edge research.
