Role Overview
What You Can Expect:
Team Leadership & Mentorship: You will mentor, coach, and develop your team of engineers through regular 1:1s and continuous feedback. You'll be responsible for assessing employee happiness and performance, fostering professional growth, and organizing team-building activities.
Technical & Architectural Ownership: Take full technical responsibility for the backend component. You will create and maintain development guidelines, make key architectural decisions, and ensure our services are performant, secure, testable, and maintainable, following practices like Domain-Driven Design.
Strategic Feature Development: Lead your team in planning, developing, and implementing new features. You'll guide the technical execution while evaluating the impact of your team's work on the product and the company's business.
Hiring & Onboarding: Actively participate in the hiring, onboarding, and retention of top engineering talent to enhance the team's capabilities.
Championing Best Practices: Foster an environment that values good programming practices and agile methods. You will guide the team in creating MVPs for A/B testing and implementing maintainable, high-quality solutions.
Quality & Improvement: Define, measure, and improve key technical KPIs for the backend platform, such as API response times, error rates, and test coverage.
Autonomy and Flexibility: Embrace our remote-first work environment. You will have the autonomy and self-organization to lead your team effectively, aligning their efforts with ClipMyHorse.TV's overall OKRs.
What Makes You a Fit:
Professional Experience: You have a proven history of leading a software engineering team, coupled with extensive professional experience developing backend systems.
Technical Expertise: You are an expert in PHP and modern web frameworks like Symfony and/or Laravel. You have a deep understanding of Object-Oriented design (SOLID), relational database modeling (MySQL), and designing and building REST APIs.
Quality-Driven Mindset: You have significant experience with automated testing and a strong belief in writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
Leadership Skills: You are an excellent mentor and coach with a passion for helping people grow. You possess strong decision-making skills and the ability to foster a supportive and high-performing team culture.
Communication Skills: You are proficient in English (speaking, reading, and writing) and can effectively communicate technical concepts and strategic goals.
What Makes You Shine:
While not mandatory, experience or familiarity with the following is desirable:
Knowledge or certifications in AWS.
Experience in building microservices, serverless, cloud-native, or event-driven applications.
Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Golang.
Proven success in a remote leadership role.
Experience working in content and/or broadcast companies.
