HV Design Engineer - Grid & Evacuation Infrastructure
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage comprehensive project designs, plans, schedules, and budgets for grid projects (substations and HV lines) to connect renewable hybrid projects and data centres;
- Perform and analyse OHL corridors from the hybrid project/data centre till the interconnection substation;
- Oversee and report on the progress of the grid connection process, with a strong focus on the design and execution of evacuation infrastructure;
- Manage communication and coordination with Distribution and Transmission System Operators (DNOs/TSOs) to secure grid connections for generation facilities;
- Provide technical support during negotiations at connection nodes to successfully secure Grid Sharing Agreements;
- Prepare and manage grid connection schedules in close coordination with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams;
- Proactively notify the Project Manager of potential delays or risks, particularly those related to critical equipment delivery;
- Support the Project Manager with administrative processes related to evacuation infrastructure.
- Identify and flag any issues arising from PV, wind, or BESS systems that may affect grid-connection timelines;
- Support the Procurement team in estimating and validating costs related to evacuation infrastructure, ensuring technically sound and cost-effective solutions.
- Contribute to the technical due diligence process by evaluating infrastructure readiness and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing grid connection processes and working with Distribution and/or Transmission System Operators (e.g., REN, E-Redes), preferably within the energy or infrastructure sectors;
- Strong technical expertise in grid-sharing agreements, evacuation infrastructure, subcontractor management, and risk assessment;
- Proven ability to coordinate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including EPC, Procurement, and Business Development;
- Highly detail-oriented, proactive in identifying and mitigating project risks, and skilled in stakeholder management;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Fluency in Portuguese and English is required.
