R&D Optics Expert (m/f/d)

(immediately & full-time)

We are seeking a highly skilled and highly motivated hands-on Optics Expert to join our dynamic Research & Development department at ficonTEC. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing our optical technologies and contributing to the development of groundbreaking products.

You will work in typical technology fields like highly specialized imaging systems or active (feedback driven) alignment of optical fibers. As an Optics Expert, you will be responsible for all kinds of theoretical but also hands-on investigations and realization of concepts and setups in the R&D lab as well as for troubleshooting of existing setups. This includes collaboration in cross-functional teams in which you share your pragmatic and solution focused approach and train less experienced colleagues.

Responsibilities:

• Design and optimize optical systems for various applications.
• Conduct experimental work to validate optical designs and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate optics into overall product designs.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive products.
• Troubleshoot and provide technical support for optical issues in existing products.
• Mentor and guide junior members of the R&D team

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Optics, Physics, or a related field.
• Proven hands-on experience in designing and developing optical systems.
• General optical understanding, with expertise in integrated optics and fiber optics.
• Good background in optical design software (e.g., Zemax) and simulation tools.
• Knowledge of optical assembly strategies for efficient and reliable manufacturing.
• "Out of the box" thinking, with a creative approach to problem-solving.
• Experience with imaging and non-imaging optics and laser systems is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Hands-on mentality, you like spending your time in the lab and know how to use screw drivers and soldering iron
• Very good spoken and written language skills in English, German is a plus
