Topic:  Camera Lens Alignment Considering Diffractive Optical Elements

Your responsibilities

Digital camera modules consist of two primary components: a CMOS camera system and anoptically aligned lens system. Achieving a sharp image requires accurate alignment of the lens to the sensor in five degrees of freedom. Sensor-lens alignment is a part of our research and development activities at ficonTEC. The aim of this thesis is to develop a new concept using diffractive optical elements to create know calibrated-targets to be used in the alignment process. This research is based on recent developments in this field as presented in the master thesis "Comparison of Image Contrast and the Modulation Transfer Function in Camera Lens Alignment" by Philipp Schulz. Your job, is to select commercially available diffractive optics to build an optical alignment system. Then, realizing the opti-mechanical setup in the lab. Finally, investigating the optical performance by analyzing the image quality.

The following points should be covered:

1. Theoretical Research
  • State of the art of the camera modules active alignment
  • Diffractive optics working Principle
  • Explanation of the used generated pattern
  • Mathematical description of the final alignment working principle

2. Experimental Research:

  • Realizating the opto-mechanical setup
  • Developing a Python code for calculations and evaluation
  • Automating the alignment setup using ficoTEC standard machine
  • Investigating the alignment performance by image quality evaluation
3. Thesis Report in english

We offer:

  • Appropriate remuneration opportunities
  • Distinctive prospects incl. international career opportunities
  • Exciting, international clients from a wide range of industries
  • Onboarding program and individual support
  • Annual employee appraisals for your targeted and individual development/personal development
  • Short decision-making processes, opportunity to get involved and change things
  • Discount opportunities for employees (e.g., City for two, benefits app)
  • Top hardware incl. ergonomic workplace conditions
  • Of course: regular company events (e.g., summer party, Christmas party, B2Run), free drinks and parking spaces
