Senior Software Engineer AI (f/m/d)

We are looking for an experienced AI software engineer to join our Software Engineering Team at Digital Endoscopy GmbH. As the innovation hub for Pentax Medical, a globally operating manufacturer of medical endoscopic systems, we seek an open-minded and innovative colleague. Together, we will tackle the challenges of creating innovative solutions to support physicians and improve patient treatment. Our work can have a direct impact on patient care by preventing or curing diseases such as cancer on a global scale.

You will play a vital role in defining, researching, and developing new AI solutions for the future endoscopic systems of Pentax Medical. Your primary task will be to develop new AI approaches for unresolved challenges and evaluate AI algorithm performance for medical clearance. Additionally, you will support junior colleagues in the field of AI and AI software toolchains. Therefore, besides a solid understanding of AI systems and the algorithms behind them, strong team skills and a hands-on mentality are also essential.

Since this position involves creating innovations for endoscopy, you will also engage in identifying future clinical needs through direct communication with medical professionals worldwide.

Your tasks

  • Design and develop algorithms in the field of digital image processing and computer vision.
  • Utilize Deep Learning Frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • Create specifications and implement abstract models in C++, Python, and Matlab.
  • Develop algorithms for detecting characteristic patterns in endoscopy.
  • Identify unmet clinical needs in collaboration with physicians and other medical stakeholders.
  • Maintain and enhance existing models and implementations.
  • Evaluate the performance of existing and new AI solutions
  • Support the transition of prototype implementations into medical products.
  • Prepare software documentation as part of the IEC 62304 development process.
  • Actively participate in shaping and optimizing the development workflow.
  • Support junior AI engineers with expertise in AI algorithms and software toolchains

Your qualifications

  • Completed degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, ideally with a PhD
  • Relevant professional experience and expert knowledge in digital image processing and algorithm development for computer systems.
  • Practical experience in Reinforcement Learning, Neural Networks, and Deep Learning with DNN Frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Proficiency in Python is mandatory, C/C++ programming skills are desired.
  • Additional advantageous qualifications:
    • Prior knowledge in medical technology.
    • Experience in programming graphics processors.
    • Familiarity with other programming languages.
    • Proficiency in Linux.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to adapt to new tasks, engage with unconventional and innovative problem-solving approaches.
  • Fluent in German and proficient in English, with the ability to actively participate in technical discussions and write technical reports
