About TMG Research

TMG Research gGmbH is dedicated to driving just and sustainable transitions through action research and policy dialogue. Committed to a rights-based approach, our programmes focus on responsible land governance, food systems transformation in rural and urban settings, and adaptation to climate change. Our work spans the European Union and Africa, with key initiatives in countries such as Benin, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, and South Africa. 

We explore how local innovations and global policies intersect to drive systemic change, ensuring that international frameworks are both inspired by and responsive to community-led transformations. And we co-develop our research projects and advocacy with civil society, policymakers, scientists and the private sector to ensure international sustainability efforts are informed by emergent innovations and forge real-world solutions. 

About the position

TMG Research has a lean communications department supporting two programme teams that manage projects spanning land governance, food systems transformation, and adaptation to climate change. In close collaboration with the Communications Lead, this position is expected to provide support to programme teams in producing and implementing communications plans, producing external communications materials in accordance with TMG’s communications guidelines, and leading on the development of TMG’s website. The ideal candidate is eager to contribute to impactful storytelling, has a strong commitment to collaboration and a knack for coordination. This position offers the opportunity to develop and apply new ideas to enhance overall organizational communications efforts.

The Communications Officer is responsible for the following:

Strategy and content (40%)

  • Work closely with research teams to develop communications plans, campaigns and research distribution strategies. Monitor and analyse performance of plans against goals
  • Contribute to content development, including performing the analytical review, development and/or compiling of substantive messages, as well as writing a variety of external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, website and social media content, videos (scripts), brochures, etc.
  • Manage newsletter release, including organizing content into layout, contributing writing, segmenting audiences, A/B testing content, etc.
  • Contribute to the management, development and expansion of TMG’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.)
  • Ensure the communications products adhere to TMG’s communications style guide and quality standards
  • Develop social media assets on Canva templates, where needed

Website (40%)

  • Manage TMG’s website, ensuring content is relevant and engaging. Additionally, upload publications, create webpages for programme teams for events, publications, blogs and other items
  • In collaboration with website support consultant, regularly review, improve and keep up-to-date TMG’s website to ensure a modern, user-friendly interface for across platforms, in line with brand identity

Administrative (20%)

  • Manage supplier relationships for communications (website, designer) to ensure they provide quality work to budget and time, and support programme teams in accessing them, as needed
  • Ensure brand identity compliance by contributing to and distributing templates for blog posts, info briefs, etc. and update/manage TMG Handbook and brand items, where needed

Your profile

  • Several years of communications experience
  • Experience in the design and implementation of strategic communications and outreach strategies
  • Excellent English-language writing, editing, reporting and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in issues related to sustainable development, climate change, and policy processes
  • Extraordinary attention to detail and quality assurance provision, as well as coordination and collaboration skills
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility, with a positive team-spirit and commitment to working within a dynamic, transdisciplinary, policy-relevant field
  • Experience in working with online content management systems and website monitoring tools (experience with Contentful is an advantage)
  • Canva design experience is an advantage

The position should ideally be filled by February 2025 with an initial duration of 1 year with the prospect of contract extension pending further funding. Preferred duty station is Berlin.
